About Gentle Recall
Gentle Recall™ is owned and operated by JADCOM Media LLC. It is a free service provided to the dementia caregiving community. It is a result of a multi-year evolution.
2015: KalendarKards
KalendarKards was a card-based reminder system developed to assist a family member with remembering tasks and activities around the house.
During the KalendarKards run, there was much learned about the helpful and beneficial activity called a Memory Cafe.
2016: Memory Cafe Directory
While it was easy to learn about the Memory Cafe movement (started in Europe, then migrated to the US and globally), it was difficult to find a Memory Cafe nearby. The only easy way to know was if you were part of an organization who sponsored or facilitated a Memory Cafe.
Given the lack of visibility for finding a Memory Cafe nearby, JADCOM Media’s founder, Dave Wiederrich created MemoryCafeDirectory.com.
Memory Cafe Directory grew to over 1,000 listings in seven countries. It was an easy-to-use tool, allowing visitors to choose their country and state from a map and then look for a listing near them. It was also hub for caregiving resources and other valuable information.
In 2024, the Memory Cafe Alliance purchased the Memory Cafe Directory domain name.
2019: Memory Joggers
One of the valuable dementia caregiving resources developed by JADCOM Media during the Memory Cafe Directory growth was Memory Joggers. This is the original roots of what is now Gentle Recall.
Memory Cafe operators, family care providers, Activities Directors – and more – all fell in love with Memory Joggers. From an ice-breaker to start each Memory Cafe, to garnering attention around the dining room table, Memory Joggers were use in many, many situations.
2026: Gentle Recall Rebrand
With hundreds of recall prompts published in dozens of volumes it felt like a very good time to rebrand Memory Joggers. While Memory Joggers was descriptive, this generic term was widely used in unrelated products and started to generate some confusion.
The result was a new, clearer, more respectful name that more closely describes the activity: Gentle Recall.
